Solo Agers

Six million older adults are solo agers: Childless and live alone. They have the freedom to go where they want to go and do what they want to do. Many have an active support circle of peers—their family of choice. But when it comes to getting help as they age, they don’t have the traditional support networks. This is where we come in!

We understand the challenges of solo aging. If you are a solo ager, even if you have very close friends, when the time comes you could all be dealing with enough health challenges that you won’t be available to help each other out as you do now.

Let us help you proactively make arrangements so you will have the support you need and want, across all aspects of your aging journey. No one can predict what their elderhood will look like. But with professionals at your side who have deep knowledge of your values, your priorities, and your resources, you can be assured that you will not walk your journey alone.

Creating a support network

Aging is more than a biological process. It involves emotional and social realities. There are legal and financial issues to address, as well as practical tasks of daily living. This is why we like to work in a team context that includes an elderlaw attorney and a wealth manager. We provide medical advocacy and help you make decisions concerning daily life. The wealth manager can help you reach the financial goals you need to live out your plans. The attorney can get the necessary paperwork in order for addressing end-of-life decisions. If you do not already have a wealth manager or elderlaw attorney, we are happy to refer you to professionals we find top notch in their fields.

Being prepared

A proactive approach will help you be ready for whatever comes your way. As the South Texas experts in aging well, we can assist you with the overview and guide you through the often-confusing labyrinth of the eldercare network.

  • Understanding Medicare and your insurance options. We don’t sell insurance, but we can help you evaluate what you have versus what you might need.
  • Understanding powers of attorney and guardianship. We don’t create the documents—an attorney does that. But we can help you understand when and why you need them and discuss who in your circle would best be able to fulfill those roles if needed.
  • Understanding your housing and care options. Many of our clients want to stay in their own homes. Our Aging in Place consultations can give you a sense of the pros and cons and what would be required financially. We can also recommend support services, such as contractors to remodel your home, or the best home care assistance in San Antonio should you need additional help.

Medical emergencies

As healthy as you are now, all it takes is a fall, or a stroke, or a car accident, and you could find yourself in the Emergency Room with a serious threat to your independence. We can help you be sure all your paperwork is in order so the medical team has what they need to make wise decisions. We can also advocate for you and ensure that you are discharged to high-quality follow-up care, whether that’s a skilled nursing facility, the best assisted living in San Antonio, or back to your own home with quality home care assistance.
